Police fire shots at UTME students

Hundreds of students sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination billed to hold on Monday in Jos  escaped death when policemen called on to maintain order fired shots.

The students have been protesting at the Plateau state JAMB office over the inability of the board to provide their examination slips. In the midst of the confusion, the JAMB officials locked their doors and asked the students to come the next day. This led to the protesting students breaking doors and smashing windows of the office.

Policemen fired shots into the air to disperse the students. One of the students, Kemi said the police endangered lives of the students as many of them could have been knocked down by vehicles while scrambling away on hearing gunshots.

There was also pandemonium at the Kogi state JAMB office in Lokoja over a similar issue.
