Babangida denies killing Abiola

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has denied having a hand in the death of Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the famous June 12 1993 Presidential election.
Babangida said this in an interview that he received news of Abiola's death with shock but without regret.
Widespread belief is that Abiola was served with poisoned tea, but Babangida says even if the claims are true, he didn't take any part in it.
The ex-military ruler also said he will support an Igbo candidate for presidency in 2019, and that the Biafra agitations is an unneeded distraction.

People agitating for Biafra are very wrong- Akinjide

Former Minister of Justice. Chief Richard Akinjide has stated that recent agitations for an independent Biafra is wrong and the country's unity should be priority.
Akinjide while speaking to Vanguard newspaper said Anybody supporting Biafra must be very, very wrong. I don’t know their reason but whatever
their reason, they are wrong. We fought a war for three years over Biafra and Biafra was defeated and the whole country united with the
belief that Nigeria should remain one country and the Igbo joined the country and since then they have been governors in the country, they
have been ministers both at the state and federal levels. They have been ambassadors abroad. I don’t see why anybody should now be asking for Biafra again, I think it should be rejected.
I think they should call them to a meeting and talk to them as father to son and ask them to stop because there is no reason for them to do what they are doing. In the last
government, we had an Igbo as Minister of Finance (Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) and also, we had an Igbo as Secretary to the government, we also had Igbo as ambassadors in many parts of the world. So, there is no excuse for anybody to say he
wants to break up the country again after we fought a bloody war of about three years. We don’t want to go back to that. We want peace
everywhere and we want a fair share whether you are from the North, East, West, South, Middle-Belt everything should be evenly and fairly distributed.
Akinjide also criticised the selection of Bello Muhammed, a northerner as FCT minister, saying only northerners have been FCT ministers since the capital was moved to Abuja.

Cabinet! Meagre salary causes disquiet among ministers

There is rumoured to be some grumblings among the newly appointed ministers in the Buhari-led administration. This is not unconnected to their working conditions especially their salaries, which is far lower than their expectations.

The conditions were contained in a letter of appointment delivered to them during the week by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal.

According to the letter, while the minister will receive N2, 026, 400 Annual Basic Salary($8,514.285), minister of state is to get
N1.8million ($7,563.025) per annum.

The other conditions include: Estacode Allowance($900 per diem); Duty Tour Allowance(N35,000); Utilities Allowance (Telephone/ Electricity/ Water)–30% of Annual
Basic Salary (N607,920); Domestic Staff Allowance(75% -((N1,519,800) of Annual Basic Salary; Medical Facilities (in accordance with
NHIS Policy); Special Assistant (To be provided in kind); Security (To be provided in kind); Air Travel (By Business Class); Newspaper Allowance (15% of Annual Basic
Salary-N303,960).

The ministers have expressed fears that the salary may not be able to foot their bills.

A source said while speaking to The Nation “Most ministers have been
sad since they received their letters of
appointment because the salary and allowance
package was a far cry from where they were
coming from. We hope that ministers will
eventually not steal if they have to serve this
nation on hungry stomach.

Aregbesola promises project completion.

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has said all projects embarked on by his administration will be completed before the end of his tenure.

Aregbesola said this at the opening of a new Radio station in Oshogbo, Rave FM.

At the event, Aregbesola said all “detractors and opposition will soon come to appreciate my administration when all projects embarked on are completed before the end of my tenure in office.”

Eventhough he acknowledged that things were financially tough for the state, he said help was on the way for the state.

He said, “I will not be disturbed by bad comments from some people about my policies because I believe in God who sent me to Osun and supports me.

“What we are doing in Osun may not be appreciated now, but it will become what people will praise later; we came here and all we have been doing has been inspired by God.”

Aregbesola described as shameful the exaggeration of the debt profile of the state by some parties.

He said, “If we borrowed N800bn, like some (people) said, how could we have been able to pay the loan interest? How could we have survived? Though we took loan, and that is the only way we could have brought development to the state; as tough as it is, God and His help is on the way and Osun shall overcome.”

Igbos didn't start civil war - Iwuanyanwu

A chieftain of the PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP),
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has said contrary to insinuations in some quarters, Igbo did not start
the civil war, which engulfed the country from 1967 to 1970.
He said rather, those who felt that the Igbo in the military carried out the 1966 coup started the war,
and then went on a mindless killing of Igbo.
Iwuanyanwu, who spoke in Aba, Abia State at an integrated economic summit organised by an Igbo
socio-cultural organisation, Aka Ikenga, stated that for the fact that Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dr.
Michael Okpara were not killed during the coup could not translate to an Igbo coup.
Bemoaning the effect of the civil war on Igbo unity, Iwuanyanwu, who said he was a young Biafran
major during the war, stated that while northerners believe in themselves, the Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi states were proud to say they were Yorubas, stressing that the Igbo outside the core Igbo states
find it difficult to identify as Igbo.
He said there was no ethnic group in Nigeria that believes in the oneness of the country more thanthe Igbo, saying: “Igbo believe in one united
Nigeria more than any other tribe. While the Igbo have investments in all parts of the country, there is no single investment owned by a non-Igbo in Igboland.”
Earlier, President General of Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, said Aba was chosen for the summit because of its strategic position as the melting pot of commercial activities of the Igbo
nation.

Pastor Chris in Fake Miracle Scandal

Popular Nigerian pastor, and Head of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has been accused of paying people to stage fake miracles.
According to a South African newspaper, The Sowetan, a member of the church said Pastor Chris paid people to pretend to be sick, so they are 'healed' immediately after the pastor prays for them.
“I was offered R10 000 to rehearse and pretend to be in a wheelchair three weeks before the all-night prayer called Night of Bliss
at the Johannesburg Stadium,”
“The pastor told me that they were looking for people to work for the church. He said that I was going to sit in a wheelchair and be
wheeled around while pretending to be physically ill. I would then stand up and walk as soon as Pastor Chris stopped praying for me.
“Even children who are healthy are whisked around in wheelchairs. Some use crutches. Everyone is allocated a person who tells the
congregation about your background, your specific illness and suffering.
“The pastor then raises his hands and places them maybe on your legs if you cannot walk, and a few seconds later you get up and walk
around the room,” the source said.

He claimed he called the church the day after their offer and turned them down claiming he felt it was immoral to lie with the name of God.

Another worshipper says “ When
he started healing people, I did not see him call anyone from the audience. The people that he ‘healed’ came from a certain section of the audience and it looked like he came with them especially for the event.
“I saw a lot of people in wheelchairs leaving the venue who had not been healed. It was very sad.”

Pastor makes new revelations about Biafra.

The general overseer of God’s Covenant of Christ Sabbath Mission, Amannachi in Orsu Local council Area of Imo State, High Priest
Clifford Nmenabu, has made a new revelation about Biafra and Nigeria.

The Pastor said he went into a trance with God where he was informed of imminent bloodshed if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of Radio Biafra is not released.

The Pastor while addressing journalists yesterday said “Kanu was not speaking against anybody
or group of persons. His broadcasts were truth-oriented and consciousness-awakening.
It was a divine arrangement for a renaissance and liberation of a particular sect who have
been under bondage.”
He also claimed that the prophecy about Biafra was revealed to him in 1971 after the Nigerian Civil war. According to him, “The revelation came this way: The spirit of God showed me a finger that pointed at the Nigerian map. It subsequently
showed the map divided in two, one part was named Biafra and the other, Nigeria. Also in 1996, God visited and showed me, in a trance,
where properties belonging to Nigeria were kept in a place at the Bridge Head, Onitsha.
While some of the properties were thrown across to the Asaba end of the Niger bridge, the other was thrown across to the Onitsha
end. The prophecy also says that the one thrown to Asaba area belongs to Nigeria, while the other belongs to Biafra.”
High Priest Nmenabu claimed that the Biafra project must be achieved and that recent unrest in the country were signs of liberation.

After Two Months: Obasanjo replies Jonathan's letter

Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday replied a letter written to him by immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan had written to Obasanjo to inform him of his next endeavour, The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.

advising him (Jonathan) to use the new Foundation he is set to establish to engage in soul searching and in reviewing his past actions. In the letter, dated October 12, 2015, He also advised his estranged godson to consider the Foundation as a platform through which he can heal his conscience and demonstrate penitence over
his past actions.
The letter according to Premium Yes read thus
Dear President Goodluck Jonathan,
“I write to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter of September 22, 2015. I take this
opportunity to congratulate you on your
successful handover to the current President
of Nigeria, H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I am happy to note that you had a good rest
and time with your family during the break. I
hope you also had time to reflect and see what
lessons you have learned and what you can
bequeath to others.
“All of us who have had experience in our
service to the nation and to humanity must
not put it under the bushel.
“I have to commend you and your Foundation,
Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, for the faith
you continue to have in Nigeria.
“Maybe seeking how to be better and more
serviceable to the nation and humanity is also
a form of penitence and soul-searching to
give conscience a relief and to show remorse.
“I wish you well as you continue to forge
ahead with your activities in the coming
months and years. If there is any area you feel
I can be of help, you should not hesitate to
call on me.
Yours Sincerely,

PDP wins appeal in Ondo, Election Upheld

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure on Tuesday upturned the judgment of the Ondo State Election Petition tribunal which nullified the election of Kolade Akinjo, as a member of the House of Representatives representing Ilaje/Ese Odo federal
constituency.
The tribunal had ruled that Akinjo was ineligible to contest.

Delivering its judgment on Tuesday, the Appeal Court, presided over by Justice Abiyiri Shehu, faulted the tribunal judgment, for ruling that Akinjo was not a member of the
PDP at the time of the election because his membership card was not signed by his ward chairman and secretary.

The panel of judges ruled that Akinjo's challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate Lucky Aiyedatiwa would have tendered a better case if
he had presented another card to show that Akinjo’s card was fake and not credible enough to attest to his membership of the PDP before the March 28 National Assembly
election.

The Court therefore upheld Akinjo's election as the duly elected representative in the National Assembly elections.

Army nabs Fake Miracle Pastor

The 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has arrested a pastor and two others for allegedly faking miracles and healing to deceive church members and the public.
PRO of the 2nd Brigade, Captain Eli Lazarus stated that the army acted on tip off from a member of the church about the pastor and his accomplices who have conned a lot of people.
“The self-acclaimed pastor and his
collaborators (names withheld) were
subsequently arrested and they confessed to duping unsuspecting members of the public of various sums of money.
“The suspects also confessed of stage- managing miracles and healing to attract members to their church located along Aluu

He said the suspects would be handed over
to the police for further investigation.

Law makers move to reduce population rate.

On Tuesday at the sitting of the National House of Assembly, a Law maker raised an issue that Nigeria is under pressure from its growth rate which adds about five million people to the country’s population annually.

Honourable Babatunde Kolawole said that Nigeria must come up with an action plan to check the growing population.

“There is concern that unbridled population growth puts pressure on the country’s finances and infrastructure, especially food, housing, education and healthcare.

“It is also a catalyst for high unemployment, poverty, crime and others,” he said.

But one of his colleagues opposed the motion on religious ground, with the "free to born" ideology which led to a debate on the floor.

Even though some lawmakers supported the motion, those against it were more passionate.

Lecturers are more corrupt than politicians.

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Theresa Akande, at the 10th National Conference of School of Business Studies with the theme, “Anticipated Change(s) in Nigeria: the Roles of Tertiary Institutions,” said that Institutions are central to the change agenda in Nigeria because lecturers are more corrupt than politicians.

Read excerpt from what she said:

"Shocking as this will sound, many of the Ad-hoc employees of INEC during elections are usually employees of tertiary institutions. Where is the change coming from? Who are the people to bring the change? Who are the implementers of the change?

“For corruption and all other frauds to be eradicated, we must look beyond those who stole in billions and trillions; it should be tackled holistically. Lecturers who inflate marks, mess around with female students, demand sex for marks or make demands for money are corrupt. In fact, they are more corrupt because they are destroying lives.

“Students who engage in examination malpractices are corrupt. Employees, who report late or absent themselves wilfully from work, are corrupt,

“So, all forms of corruption must be battled to a standstill because if this is not done, we will only be scratching the surface of our problems, instead of uprooting the very tap root.”
