Benue State Governor reacts to the comment of the Defence Minister about the Fulani Herdsmen killings.

In an interview, the Benue Governor, Governor Ortum was asked what was his reaction to the comments of the Defence Minister that the Anti-Open grazing law was what fueled the killings by the Fulani Herdsmen in Benue State and Taraba.

Here's what he says;

We are not distracted, the anti-grazing law was done in the best interest of Benue State and Nigeria. Before the law came in place, Benue State was attacked more than 40 times and we suffered casualties and destructions.

In 2014 alone, an assessment by the Bureau of Local Governments came out with a figure of N95 billion that was lost in terms of property and assets of Benue people, destroyed due to herdsmen attacks. Thirteen local government areas out of 23 were under siege.

The herdsmen came and took over the entire land. When we came in 2015, this challenge continued, the killings continued, the burning and destruction, the raping of our wives and children continued. And we tried to broker peace as law- abiding citizens and as people who believe in leadership with the fear of God. We did everything to ensure that we had peace yet the peace we were looking for never came. And as leaders with the responsibility of providing security for lives and property, we prayed and God directed us and we went into research.

We discovered that globally, cattle ranching remains the best practice in animal husbandry around the world. Argentina and Brazil earn much from beef export but they ranch. America produces cattle more than most countries of the world, they ranch. China and other Asian countries do same; even in Africa, it’s the same practice. Swaziland is one of the smallest countries in Africa that earn much from beef; they also ranch. What we did was the popular wish of the people.

The law was not smuggled. It was a product of the cry of the people and as a responsible government, we heard their cry and presented a bill before the State House of Assembly that went further to do public hearings across the state to get the input of everyone that was concerned because of the importance of the bill.

Today, you talk about ranching in some states, grazing reserve in some states and tomorrow you talk about colony. I don’t understand, when globally what is being practised is ranching.

I heard and I saw the Minister of Defence after their security meeting. While briefing the Press, he said it was the law prohibiting open grazing that brought the killings in Benue State. I saw that and I said to myself, it cannot be the Minister of Defence!
Somebody who worked and retired from the army after attaining the rank of a General. This is someone who is a Minister, who is educated and has travelled far and wide round the globe. How could he say that?
‘Honourable Minister of Defence, if you said that kind of a thing, where were you as the Minister of this country when herdsmen were carrying AK-47 and weapons higher than AK-47 and were going about killing my people and you want me to keep quiet? And I begin to wonder. The other day, the Federal Government came out with a pronouncement that it was ISIS, a terrorist group in West Africa that is attacking Benue people and on the other hand, I was told that the Minister said that we should accommodate foreigners.
What a country? Foreigners come in without valid papers and they come to take over your land and you surrender it to them? Minister, I will not do that in Benue State, we will not surrender our land.
You can go and do it in your own state and not in Benue State. These people who are supposed to be assisting Mr. President are there for their selfish interests, misinforming him, misdirecting him instead of guiding him to do the right thing.
Killings are going on in the states and they are talking about law. Is there any grazing law in Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Enugu, Kwara, Zamfara and several other states? Is there any law prohibiting open grazing in those places?
Innocent people, pregnant women were slaughtered and a minister will come out and say this kind of thing; it is unfortunate, really unfortunate.
But I want to send a message, that the God I serve lives. The God I serve is the God of justice for the poor and innocent.
They can do whatever they like today because they have the power but God is our defence. We will continue to be law-abiding.
You talk about hate speech, how can people keep quiet? If everybody keeps quiet, I’m not going to keep quiet. I’m going to say it. What they are doing is wrong. They should stop diverting attention; they should address these issues.
All ethnic groups in the country and even foreigners who have valid papers are free to come to Benue State to do business. But if you stay in Benue State, you must obey the laws of the land, that is the point we are making.

INEC to announce 2019 elections result electronically.

In a bid to avoid electoral malpractice in the 2019 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided to partner with the Nigerian Communications Commission, to declare the elections result electronically.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this while visiting the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta, in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said, “We are planning for full deployment (of electronic and manual transmission) this year in governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun. Thereafter we intend to deploy the system in the 2019 general elections.

“INEC has developed the hardware and software. However, we rely on the operators for the transmission of both the figures and scanned images of result sheets. We wish to assure Nigerians that while we transmit the raw figures from polling units, scanned images of the result sheets will also be transmitted electronically in addition to physical copies given to party agents at polling units.”

“Similarly, we would like the NCC to facilitate discussions with operators on ways of enhancing their corporate social responsibility to Nigeria’s electoral process. An immediate area of interest to INEC is how the operators can help in voter education and publicity.

“Towards the 2019 general elections, we would like the operators in collaboration with INEC, to send bulk SMS and possibly voice messages as well on the imperative of peaceful elections, the collection of Permanent Voter Cards by registered voters and directional information on the location of polling units for easy access to voters.”

The Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC assured the INEC Chairman that his agency would help the electoral body in every way possible to ensure that the 2019 elections are free, fair and credible.

Dabatta said the NCC would try to improve the security of the communications system before the 2019 election so that it would be effective for the dissemination of election results.

Insecurities and the way out.

Most times we get quite insecure and this is as a result of low self esteem that we experience and that was further induced by other factors.

A cruel childhood, verbal abuse and assault by parent or elders. Imagine a Nigerian parent calling his or her child 'oloriburuku', 'head that brings bad luck''konidaafunee' 'it wil not be well with you' and they expect this child to grow up and make them proud.

The child having heard this words spoken to him/her overtime begins to conform to the word subconscious, this can in turn affect the esteem of the child.

Also the society we live in most times makes people not be able to measure up to the societal expectations and this makes the people feel they are not good enough.

Most of us at certain points or the other have been victims of love self esteem, feelings of not been good enough, the need for acceptance and several other.

A few tips to boost your self esteem are;

Tell yourself the truth about you. This is important because words are life and the words you speak to yourself comes back to affect you.

Treat yourself out on a special date. Basically, you need to spoil yourself and take yourself out. Especially for the ladies, most ladies feel they need a man to take them out, they can't even spend their own #500 on themselves. If you don't think you are worth that much then how can someone else make you feel so. Even if a man tells you that you are beautiful, you would think it's just because he wants to sleep with you. C'mon, you are worth it. There is no one in the world like you remember that song.

Avoid toxic people who bring you down with their words.
This is also very important because the words we listen to shapes us. If you are surrounded by people who only bring you down with their words then by all means please avoid them. If no one would say nice truths to you about you then stick with yourself.

You are beautiful the way you are, you can be everything you want to be. So, keep your head high, chin up and face life squarely....

Ruth loves yo

Bringing the past into the present.

Relationships most times have endings we bearly imagine or expect.

How do you go about telling the present man or woman in your life about a past incident or something you did in the past that you are not proud of.

The reality is, if they eventually find out, they might get really hurt and it may even cost us the relationship after all.

Have you ever been in such a situation?  Or are you of the opinion that the past is the past so everyone should move on and put the past behind them.

I would make a post much later about that but please reply and let me know what you think.

Man murdered to death by Fulani herdsmen in Ondo State

A commercial driver has been reportedly stabbed to death by an unknown Fulani herdsman.

A commercial driver, Victor Ajisafe was reportedly stabbed to death by a suspected Fulani herdsman in Akure, Ondo State over a minor disagreement. This then degenerated into the victim being chased by the Herdsman and being stabbed severally by the Fulani man. He was rushed to the hospital but died eventually.

He was member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

His wife Mrs Ajisafe said: “It was my husband’s brother who informed me that one Fulani man stabbed my husband in the neck and was rushed to the hospital. When I got there, my in-laws and friends did not allow me to see him despite all my efforts. “They later took me back home in their car under the guise that we should get money to take proper care of him. It was then they took me to my mother’s shop at Road Block that they broke the news that he was dead.”

Vulnerable?? Here's what to do

”V” Card.

I bet when you saw “V” card you thought I was talking about virginity. But I must correct that notion,by ‘v’ card I mean Vulnerability card.

So many times, we start out being careful, but carefully, we become careless. What I’ll term “careful-carelessness”.
Vulnerability creates a feeling of emotional imbalance.

Everything goes, things said that should be forgotten stays, everything gets to you. You try to please everybody because you believe you’re not perfect and you’re made to satisfy everyone without pleasing yourself. You beat yourself hard when things fall apart, even when you’re not wrong. You love and trust easily and you get hurt in the blink of an eye, you don’t want to get too attached because jealousy sets in[possessive], you grow on the nearest person close( the person you live with or live close to). when you see people whisper, you’re of the notion that they’re talking about you. Am I right? Well maybe.

Vulnerability makes you conscious of your fears, and instead of fighting and overcoming your fears, You’re afraid of your fears and you walk side by side with your fears.

I’m not opposed to love but love makes people vulnerable. Some people might say that love heals and makes people stronger, maybe while in love that happens but after heart break, you become weak and open to anything, thus, vulnerability stalks in. Even in love you start thinking of the opinion of the other person, Love is a risk that make you vulnerable. Love opens you to expectations and if these are not met, you could become vulnerable.

What makes people Vulnerable
Family background
Self esteem
Lack of knowledge of self worth
Insults
Passion
Bullying
Mood swings etc…..

To loose your “V” card

Know your ability/strength (i.e what you can do and cannot do)
Know who you are
Pay conscious effort to not allow things to get to you(guide your heart carefully)
Pass your limit (i.e what you can do, surpass it)
Try and always speak in gatherings
Meet new people
Live your life
Don’t live according to the dictates of others
Always try to please yourself (remember you’re the most important)
Love yourself.

Being vulnerable is not a curse, it means you’re human. Some people do not even know that they’re vulnerable. But when too vulnerable is when there’s a challenge because you’re giving people the opportunity to have the upper hand in your life. Then your life really becomes a shit hole.

P:S: Whatever you’re afraid of might be your weakness and watch out!!! you just might be vulnerable to that.

The Politics of fuel subsidy.

Fuel subsidy payment incurred by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, rose by N9.94 billion to N16.785 billion in less than one month.

This was allegedly to ensure that the price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, did not rise above the official rate of N145 per litre.

It was obtained from the NNPC Monthly Financial and Operations Report for November 2017, showing that the subsidy payment for November represented an increase of 145.08 per cent from N6.849 billion paid in October 2017.

The amount expended by the NNPC on subsidy was the second highest amount since subsidy on fuel returned in 2017, after the N36.27 billion paid by the NNPC in January 2017. To this end, the report stated that the NNPC has spent a total of N128.855 billion on fuel subsidy payments between January and November 2017.

Sebi, Uncle Buhari said he doesn't know about any subsidy and that fuel subsidy would not even be an issue when he comes into Government. Every new Government comes in and immediately increase the pms rate.

I wrote in my undergraduate project how that fuel subsidy is political and is being distributed amongst the cabals within the oil sector.

Fuel scarcity is still a present day reality and many traders still sell at ridiculously high rates.

Winning the office politics game. 2

As disheartening and disturbing as office politics is, it's still a game and you can will and even avoid being the victim of office politics.
Positive Politics
In office politics, as in most things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Once a coworker or boss is out to get you, it's hard to avoid being stabbed in the back. Play positive politics, though, and your coworkers and bosses will probably turn any stabbing instincts elsewhere. Here are a few of my favorite positive politics strategies:
Ask Respected Higher-Ups for Counsel Periodically: You have to relate well with higher ups,  especially the ones that do not go about bossing around or showing that they are the boss. Encourage them to think of you as a protege, and they're more likely to defend you when you need it.
Perform Deliberate Acts of Kindness: Stay late one night to help a coworker on a deadline. Send a handwritten thank-you note to the person who gave you that Word tip.
Do Visible, Important Tasks: If such tasks aren't in your job description, ask if you can take one on. Be sure everyone knows you did the work. For example, you might email key employees a draft of your project's final report, "for feedback," ensuring your boss or rival doesn't try to steal the credit.
Appeal to people's feelings and emotions: Show that you are also human by appealing to people's feelings. You can show false emotions and lead them. When issues happen appeal logically to their feelings and make them understand that you have the Company's interest at heart and it's important to you.

Remember, you are not fighting, you are avoiding the battle but winning. The following tips may also help.

Respond with strength: If your saboteur tries to put you down especially in front of your boss or higher ups, don't wimp or attack verbally, respond intelligibly and that's why, you must have at least a first hand knowledge of the weakness of your saboteur. Your intellect response should not directly saboteur the colleague but be a warning that tells him he is about to get into trouble with what he is doing. Don't sway off the top of discourse too.

Inoculate: Tell others what you noticed so they can be abreast and maybe defend you when the need arise.  Point to specific evidence or unfairness

Winning the office Politics game. 1

For most of us that work in the corporate world, we would agree that office politics is a phenomenon that has come to stay.

Ranging from backstabbing bosses to co-workers who try to sabotage your work, relationships and power are tightly knit in the workplace.

Many of us have been affected by office politics at some point in time and some of us are/will be victims of Office politics hence this timely post. Many workers panic at the thought of going into work because of their colleagues, while at least three in four employees find their boss the most stressful part of their job.

Now, office politics is but not limited to the strategies that people play to gain advantage, favor or for a cause they support.

How to deal with office politics and still be at the top of your game.

Be friendly with everyone.

Being friendly is not the same as being friends, getting involved and reaching out is a way to avoid being the victim of office politics. Toxic people have a way of being isolated or negative so you can spot them from a distance but for your own sanity and for your working health.
You definitely cannot please everyone but you can buy the loyalty of a few people, relate with everyone at their level. If one person at work is the main source of conflict, the best way to deal with them is to unite with other co-workers, says psychologist Dr Mary Lamia. “Grouping against a bully will provide victims with support for their feelings, since victims of bullies are at risk of becoming isolated. Through joining together and discussing the bully’s behaviour, co-workers can contain the bully, who, with their behaviour exposed, loses the power to terrorise – and faces the threat of isolation.”

Know your limit.

Being friends with everyone doesn't mean you shouldn't know your limit. Also, don't tell everyone about your private affairs, the guy you shagged last night or the hangover. Please that's your business. Remember in politics there is no permanent friend and permanent enemy. The reason why you are being friendly with everyone is so you know the grapevines and whoever is planning evil against you and you can immediately plan your attack.

Hold your head up.

The best way to render your enemies harmless is when your guards are up and your chin is held up, even when you are dealing with a heart break or any issue. Carry yourself in such a way that people cannot deduce what's wrong with you. Once you are invincible, you would also be impenetrable.

P. S: In the office, everyone is there for their own gain so don't think someone would have your back even if he/she is your friend. If their own lives is at stake they will sly you with immediate effect so you have to deal wisely with everyone you work with. Maintaining the appropriate work ethics is the best way to avoid being victim of office politics.

It's a beautiful day.

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo blasts Buhari's apologists

Senator Obasanjo who served in the Nigerian Senate between 2007 and 2011 has retorted at the defense of the supporters of Buhari concerning the letter her father Chief Obasanjo issued.

The letter reads in part;

“My attention has been drawn to the republishing (in social media) of a letter from 2013 that has since been overturned by events. I am surprised that agents of the current Nigerian administration who should benefit from the advice and admonishment of one of the most brilliant leaders to ever emerge in modern Africa have resorted to a cheap tactic that further reiterates the message that they found abhorrent enough to start looking for unconnected issues to put together to make their point.

“To say that Nigeria has problems is to make an understatement. The wise should listen, wherever help and advice come from. Those who republished the old letter should have spent time to respond to the content of the said statement which, among other things, called on President Buhari to join the rank of retired elder statesmen in 2019.

I would think this was appropriate and even unnecessary advice, given the serious medical problems he has had over the last few years. “I have had no connection with his administration or to the previous one after I left the Senate in 2011, and to try and use me and my name as some excuse is shameful. I agree with the contents of the open letter and like all people that wish Africa well, hope that Nigeria someday comes out of its death spiral to become a leading nation in the world. “It is tiring to continue to be part of the Nigerian conversation when there is no positive impact to it. I really do not want to be part of it, as I have found over and over again that speech and words are wasted on people who have no understanding of the responsibility on us as black people on this planet.

Senator Obasanjo is now a university professor based in Virginia, United States.

Plane accident in Abuja

A Dana flight, with registration number 5N-DEV coming from Port Harcourt, brushed the fence while trying to park after it landed at the NAIA in Abuja.

Eye witness told the Punch correspondence at the scene that the Pilot was at fault and that's why he refused to dismount from the plane.

We thank God that there wasn't any form of casualty on the passengers of the plane.

Buhari begins campaign for 2019.

Just two days ago, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote an 18 pages letter to President Buhari point out several issues facing the nation and calling for a Clarion call.

The members of the Executive came at him saying his letter was a distraction because he mentioned in the Letter that President Buhari should consider not contesting in 2019 and retire. Little did Nigerians know that the campaign had even begun.

During the Federal Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu began to distribute the Muhammad Buhari's re-election materials. The Minister handed over the bags to the council’s secretariat staff members for distribution just before the meeting began.

The Minister also wore a cap with the inscription “Continuity ‘19: Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo on it.”

The meeting was presided over by the President Muhammad Buhari so there is no need saying that that he wasn't aware of it. If he really wasn't aware or it's too early then why was the Minister not cautioned.

Yoruba leaders reacts to Buhari's campaign

The Yoruba Council of Elders slams the action of the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shirty and calls his action the height of sycophancy.

The YCE secretary general, Dr. Kunle Olajide, said Shittu’s distribution of the caps at FCE meeting downplayed the mood of the nation after Fulani herdsmen went on the  rampage of killing innocent people. Read his statement below;

“I am surprised that some of our political leaders are engaged in criminal height of sycophancy completely oblivious of the mood of the people they claim to represent. People are talking about 2019 elections and 2023 presidential elections as if it is somebody’s birthright.

“People should stop taking Nigerians for granted for God’s sake. We are in the 21st century and not the 20th century. The insult is too much.

“It is unfortunate and I am sad that someone could be pre-occupied with such thought and action. When you are talking about timeliness and consideration of the plight of other persons, Yoruba stands out because we are our brother’s keeper. We are liberal and that is why we are always ready to accommodate others and sympathise with their plight.

“It is sad that a Yoruba man should be doing this. Moreover, it violates the regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission on elections. I want to consider it a rumour until the minister refutes it.”

Senate - NNPC; end fuel scarcity within 7 days.

The Senate has ordered the NNPC to put a stop to the continuous fuel scarcity within seven days.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, wrote on his Twitter handle that, “Today, we gave the NNPC a seven-day deadline to ensure that the current #FuelScarcity queues that exist across the nation must disappear. Within this timeframe, they must make sure of this.

The resolution followed the adoption of a report by the Senate and House of Representatives’ Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources after a closed-door meeting between the committee and the NNPC leadership that was held on Wednesday.

Quoting the Senate Chairman for the Committee on Petroleum Resources, Senator Kabiru Marafa, while briefing journalists and Senators at Abuja. He said;

“We met them yesterday (Wednesday) and we engaged them on three key issues. One, to brief the committee, and by extension the Senate, on why the queues are back. Two, to tell us the challenges. And three, to tell us what needs to be done to clear the queues in the country.

“On the reasons the queues are back, they told us that it was a combination of the supply gap, coupled with massive smuggling across our borders, which is quite alarming. Even day before yesterday, I saw on national television where Customs officials intercepted more than 3,000 jerry cans of fuel in addition to the quantities being smuggled across the borders.”

“On their challenges, they still talked about this problem of smuggling and failure by marketers to sell at the approved pump price (N145). They told us that every litre of fuel in the country today is brought in by the NNPC and that the corporation still sells at the controlled price till today; therefore, anybody selling above the pump price is doing so at his own risk.

“They also told us that cooperation was required from the security agencies, we also direct the NNPC to ensure the adequate supply of PMS and disappearance of queues nationwide within seven days.”

Others resolutions were to “direct all security agencies to ensure effective border control measures to avoid the smuggling of petroleum products; and direct the Department of Petroleum Resources to double their efforts in enforcing price control and monitoring.”

THE WAY OUT: A CLARION CALL FOR COALITION FOR NIGERIA MOVEMENT

Special Press Statement

By

President Olusegun Obasanjo

———————————————————————————————-

Since we are still in the month of January, it is appropriate to wish all Nigerians Happy 2018. I am constrained to issue this special statement at this time considering the situation of the country. Some of you may be asking, “What has brought about this special occasion of Obasanjo issuing a Special Statement?” You will be right to ask such a question. But there is a Yoruba saying that ‘when lice abound in your clothes, your fingernails will never be dried of blood’. When I was in the village, to make sure that lice die, you put them between two fingernails and press hard to ensure they die and they always leave blood stains on the fingernails. To ensure you do not have blood on your fingernails, you have to ensure that lice are not harboured anywhere within your vicinity.

The lice of poor performance in government – poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, nepotism, gross dereliction of duty, condonation of misdeed – if not outright encouragement of it, lack of progress and hope for the future, lack of national cohesion and poor management of internal political dynamics and widening inequality – are very much with us today. With such lice of general and specific poor performance and crying poverty with us, our fingers will not be dry of ‘blood’.

Four years ago when my PDP card was torn, I made it abundantly clear that I quit partisan politics for aye but my concern and interest in Nigeria, Africa and indeed in humanity would not wane. Ever since, I have adhered strictly to that position. Since that time, I have devoted quality time to the issue of zero hunger as contained in Goal No. 2 of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. We have set the target that Nigeria with the participating States in the Zero Hunger Forum should reach Zero Hunger goal by 2025 – five years earlier than the UN target date. I am involved in the issue of education in some States and generally in the issue of youth empowerment and employment. I am involved in all these domestically and altruistically to give hope and future to the seemingly hopeless and those in despair. I believe strongly that God has endowed Nigeria so adequately that no Nigerian should be either in want or in despair.

I believe in team work and collaborative efforts. At the international level, we have worked with other world leaders to domicile the apparatus for monitoring and encouraging socio-economic progress in Africa in our Presidential Library. The purpose of Africa Progress Group, which is the new name assumed by Africa Progress Panel (APP), is to point out where, when and what works need to be done for the progress of Africa separately and collectively by African leaders and their development partners. I have also gladly accepted the invitation of the UN Secretary-General to be a member of his eighteen-member High-Level Board of Advisers on Mediation. There are other assignments I take up in other fora for Africa and for the international community. For Africa to move forward, Nigeria must be one of the anchor countries, if not the leading anchor country. It means that Nigeria must be good at home to be good outside. No doubt, our situation in the last decade or so had shown that we are not good enough at home; hence we are invariably absent at the table that we should be abroad.

All these led me to take the unusual step of going against my own political Party, PDP, in the last general election to support the opposite side. I saw that action as the best option for Nigeria. As it has been revealed in the last three years or so, that decision and the subsequent collective decision of Nigerians to vote for a change was the right decision for the nation. For me, there was nothing personal, it was all in the best interest of Nigeria and, indeed, in the best interest of Africa and humanity at large. Even the horse rider then, with whom I maintain very cordial, happy and social relationship today has come to realise his mistakes and regretted it publicly and I admire his courage and forthrightness in this regard. He has a role to play on the side line for the good of Nigeria, Africa and humanity and I will see him as a partner in playing such a role nationally and internationally, but not as a horse rider in Nigeria again.

The situation that made Nigerians to vote massively to get my brother Jonathan off the horse is playing itself out again. First, I thought I knew the point where President Buhari is weak and I spoke and wrote about it even before Nigerians voted for him and I also did vote for him because at that time it was a matter of “any option but Jonathan” (aobj). But my letter to President Jonathan titled: “Before It Is Too Late” was meant for him to act before it was too late. He ignored it and it was too late for him and those who goaded him into ignoring the voice of caution. I know that praise-singers and hired attackers may be raised up against me for verbal or even physical attack but if I can withstand undeserved imprisonment and was ready to shed my blood by standing for Nigeria, I will consider no sacrifice too great to make for the good of Nigeria at any time. No human leader is expected to be personally strong or self-sufficient in all aspects of governance.

I knew President Buhari before he became President and said that he is weak in the knowledge and understanding of the economy but I thought that he could make use of good Nigerians in that area that could help. Although, I know that you cannot give what you don’t have and that economy does not obey military order. You have to give it what it takes in the short-, medium- and long-term. Then, it would move. I know his weakness in understanding and playing in the foreign affairs sector and again, there are many Nigerians that could be used in that area as well. They have knowledge and experience that could be deployed for the good of Nigeria. There were serious allegations of round-tripping against some inner caucus of the Presidency which would seem to have been condoned. I wonder if such actions do not amount to corruption and financial crime, then what is it? Culture of condonation and turning blind eye will cover up rather than clean up. And going to justice must be with clean hands.

I thought President Buhari would fight corruption and insurgency and he must be given some credit for his achievement so far in these two areas although it is not yet uhuru!

The herdsmen/crop farmers issue is being wittingly or unwittingly allowed to turn sour and messy. It is no credit to the Federal Government that the herdsmen rampage continues with careless abandon and without finding an effective solution to it. And it is a sad symptom of insensitivity and callousness that some Governors, a day after 73 victims were being buried in a mass grave in Benue State without condolence, were jubilantly endorsing President Buhari for a second term! The timing was most unfortunate. The issue of herdsmen/crop farmers dichotomy should not be left on the political platform of blame game; the Federal Government must take the lead in bringing about solution that protects life and properties of herdsmen and crop farmers alike and for them to live amicably in the same community.

But there are three other areas where President Buhari has come out more glaringly than most of us thought we knew about him. One is nepotic deployment bordering on clannishness and inability to bring discipline to bear on errant members of his nepotic court. This has grave consequences on performance of his government to the detriment of the nation. It would appear that national interest was being sacrificed on the altar of nepotic interest. What does one make of a case like that of Maina: collusion, condonation, ineptitude, incompetence, dereliction of responsibility or kinship and friendship on the part of those who should have taken visible and deterrent disciplinary action? How many similar cases are buried, ignored or covered up and not yet in the glare of the media and the public? The second is his poor understanding of the dynamics of internal politics. This has led to wittingly or unwittingly making the nation more divided and inequality has widened and become more pronounced. It also has effect on general national security. The third is passing the buck. For instance, blaming the Governor of the Central Bank for devaluation of the naira by 70% or so and blaming past governments for it, is to say the least, not accepting one’s own responsibility. Let nobody deceive us, economy feeds on politics and because our politics is depressing, our economy is even more depressing today. If things were good, President Buhari would not need to come in. He was voted to fix things that were bad and not engage in the blame game. Our Constitution is very clear, one of the cardinal responsibilities of the President is the management of the economy of which the value of the naira forms an integral part. Kinship and friendship that place responsibility for governance in the hands of the unelected can only be deleterious to good government and to the nation.

President Buhari’s illness called for the sympathy, understanding, prayer and patience from every sane Nigerian. It is part of our culture. Most Nigerians prayed for him while he was away sick in London for over hundred days and he gave his Deputy sufficient leeway to carry on in his absence. We all thanked God for President Buhari for coming back reasonably hale and hearty and progressing well in his recovery. But whatever may be the state of President Buhari’s health today, he should neither over-push his luck nor over-tax the patience and tolerance of Nigerians for him, no matter what his self-serving, so-called advisers, who would claim that they love him more than God loves him and that without him, there would be no Nigeria say. President Buhari needs a dignified and honourable dismount from the horse. He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country. His place in history is already assured. Without impaired health and strain of age, running the affairs of Nigeria is a 25/7 affair, not 24/7.

I only appeal to brother Buhari to consider a deserved rest at this point in time and at this age. I continue to wish him robust health to enjoy his retirement from active public service. President Buhari does not necessarily need to heed my advice. But whether or not he heeds it, Nigeria needs to move on and move forward.

I have had occasion in the past to say that the two main political parties – APC and PDP – were wobbling. I must reiterate that nothing has happened to convince me otherwise. If anything, I am reinforced in my conviction. The recent show of PDP must give grave and great concern to lovers of Nigeria. To claim, as has been credited to the chief kingmaker of PDP, that for procuring the Supreme Court judgement for his faction of the Party, he must dictate the tune all the way and this is indeed fraught with danger. If neither APC nor PDP is a worthy horse to ride to lead Nigeria at this crucial and critical time, what then do we do? Remember Farooq Kperogi, an Associate Professor at the Kennesaw State University, Georgia, United States, calls it “a cruel Hobson’s choice; it’s like a choice between six and half a dozen, between evil and evil. Any selection or deflection would be a distinction without a difference.” We cannot just sit down lamenting and wringing our hands desperately and hopelessly.

I believe the situation we are in today is akin to what and where we were in at the beginning of this democratic dispensation in 1999. The nation was tottering. People became hopeless and saw no bright future in the horizon. It was all a dark cloud politically, economically and socially. The price of oil at that time was nine dollars per barrel and we had a debt overhang of about $35 billion. Most people were confused with lack of direction in the country. One of the factors that saved the situation was a near government of national unity that was put in place to navigate us through the dark cloud. We had almost all hands on deck. We used people at home and from the diaspora and we navigated through the dark cloud of those days. At that time, most people were hopelessly groping in the dark. They saw no choice, neither in the left nor in the right, and yet we were not bereft of people at home and from the diaspora that could come together to make Nigeria truly a land flowing with milk and honey. Where we are is a matter of choice but we can choose differently to make a necessary and desirable change, once again.

Wherever I go, I hear Nigerians complaining, murmuring in anguish and anger. But our anger should not be like the anger of the cripple. We can collectively save ourselves from the position we find ourselves. It will not come through self-pity, fruitless complaint or protest but through constructive and positive engagement and collective action for the good of our nation and ourselves and our children and their children. We need moral re-armament and engaging togetherness of people of like-mind and goodwill to come solidly together to lift Nigeria up. This is no time for trading blames or embarking on futile argument and neither should we accept untenable excuses for non-performance. Let us accept that the present administration has done what it can do to the limit of its ability, aptitude and understanding. Let the administration and its political party platform agree with the rest of us that what they have done and what they are capable of doing is not good enough for us. They have given as best as they have and as best as they can give. Nigeria deserves and urgently needs better than what they have given or what we know they are capable of giving. To ask them to give more will be unrealistic and will only sentence Nigeria to a prison term of four years if not destroy it beyond the possibility of an early recovery and substantial growth. Einstein made it clear to us that doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the height of folly. Already, Nigerians are committing suicide for the unbearable socio-economic situation they find themselves in. And yet Nigerians love life. We must not continue to reinforce failure and hope that all will be well. It is self-deceit and self-defeat and another aspect of folly.

What has emerged from the opposition has shown no better promise from their antecedents. As the leader of that Party for eight years as President of Nigeria, I can categorically say there is nothing to write home about in their new team. We have only one choice left to take us out of Egypt to the promised land. And that is the coalition of the concerned and the willing – ready for positive and drastic change, progress and involvement. Change that will give hope and future to all our youth and dignity and full participation to all our women. Our youth should be empowered to deploy their ability to learn, innovate and work energetically at ideas and concepts in which they can make their own original inputs. Youth must be part of the action today and not relegated to leadership of tomorrow which may never come. Change that will mean enhancement of living standard and progress for all. A situation where the elected will accountably govern and every Nigerian will have equal opportunity not based on kinship and friendship but based on free citizenship.

Democracy is sustained and measured not by leaders doing extra-ordinary things, (invariably, leaders fail to do ordinary things very well), but by citizens rising up to do ordinary things extra-ordinarily well. Our democracy, development and progress at this juncture require ordinary citizens of Nigeria to do the extra-ordinary things of changing the course and direction of our lackluster performance and development. If leadership fails, citizens must not fail and there lies the beauty and importance of democracy. We are challenged by the current situation; we must neither adopt spirit of cowardice nor timidity let alone impotence but must be sustained by courage, determination and commitment to say and do and to persist until we achieve upliftment for Nigeria. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and we believe that our venturing will not be in vain. God of Nigeria has endowed this country adequately and our non-performance cannot be blamed on God but on leadership. God, who has given us what we need and which is potentially there, will give us leadership enablement to actualize our potentiality.

The development and modernization of our country and society must be anchored and sustained on dynamic Nigerian culture, enduring values and an enchanting Nigerian dream. We must have abiding faith in our country and its role and place within the comity of nations. Today, Nigeria needs all hands on deck. All hands of men and women of goodwill must be on deck. We need all hands to move our country forward.

We need a Coalition for Nigeria, CN. Such a Movement at this juncture needs not be a political party but one to which all well-meaning Nigerians can belong. That Movement must be a coalition for democracy, good governance, social and economic well-being and progress. Coalition to salvage and redeem our country. You can count me with such a Movement. Last time, we asked, prayed and worked for change and God granted our request. This time, we must ask, pray and work for change with unity, security and progress. And God will again grant us. Of course, nothing should stop such a Movement from satisfying conditions for fielding candidates for elections. But if at any stage the Movement wishes to metamorphose into candidate-sponsoring Movement for elections, I will bow out of the Movement because I will continue to maintain my non-partisan position. Coalition for Nigeria must have its headquarters in Abuja.

This Coalition for Nigeria will be a Movement that will drive Nigeria up and forward. It must have a pride of place for all Nigerians, particularly for our youth and our women. It is a coalition of hope for all Nigerians for speedy, quality and equal development, security, unity, prosperity and progress. It is a coalition to banish poverty, insecurity and despair. Our country must not be oblivious to concomitant danger around, outside and ahead. Coalition for Nigeria must be a Movement to break new ground in building a united country, a socially-cohesive and moderately prosperous society with equity, equality of opportunity, justice and a dynamic and progressive economy that is self-reliant and takes active part in global division of labour and international decision-making.

The Movement must work out the path of development and the trajectory of development in speed, quality and equality in the short- medium- and long-term for Nigeria on the basis of sustainability, stability, predictability, credibility, security, cooperation and prosperity with diminishing inequality. What is called for is love, commitment and interest in our country, not in self, friends and kinship alone but particularly love, compassion and interest in the poor, underprivileged and downtrodden. It is our human duty and responsibility so to do. Failure to do this will amount to a sin against God and a crime against humanity.

Some may ask, what does Obasanjo want again? Obasanjo has wanted nothing other than the best for Nigeria and Nigerians and he will continue to want nothing less. And if we have the best, we will be contented whether where we live is described as palaces or huts by others and we will always give thanks to God.

I, therefore, will gladly join such a Movement when one is established as Coalition for Nigeria, CN, taking Nigeria to the height God has created it to be. From now on, the Nigeria eagle must continue to soar and fly high. CN, as a Movement, will be new, green, transparent and must remain clean and always active, selflessly so. Members must be ready to make sacrifice for the nation and pay the price of being pioneers and good Nigerians for our country to play the God-assigned role for itself, for its neighbours, for its sub-region of West Africa, for its continent and for humanity in general. For me, the strength and sustainable success of CN will derive largely from the strong commitment of a population that is constantly mobilized to the rallying platform of the fact that going forward together is our best option for building a nation that will occupy its deserved place in the global community. May God continue to lead, guide and protect us. Amen.

Yeah!!! We hitting the ground and running.

You can take everything from a man but leave with him his vision and passion and watch him make it.

I took a break from active blogging sometime ago partly because I had to concentrate on my final year work and also due to the limited available resources. Those days seemed like my darkest days, I felt unfulfilled for the most part especially when I remembered how that I wasn't doing what I loved doing and what am supposed to be doing.

Well, I have successfully graduated and achieved what I took the break for then I took sometime to realign with the vision and reprogram myself.

I made up my mind yesterday that today we are restarting the blog and yes we did. What baffled me the most was the page views from y'all. It was simply awesome and mind-blowing.

I want to say a very big thank you to y'all for not giving up on me.

For those that gave up am sorry and I humbly request a second chance.

Although, I intend to make a few modifications, I want y'all to know that I love doing this and am passionate about it.

Finally,  thank you so much for this encouragement. Knowing that you read the blog has spurred me to write and write more. Please do well to also make comments as you read.

Thank you.

Something light!!! Y'all need to see this

*I Just want to  motivate you a little*

*Asset vs Liability*

One day, the son of a rich man, who was an undergraduate,
approached his father and the following discussion took place.
Son: Dad, may I speak with you?
Dad: Go ahead.
Son: Among all my classmates, I am the only one without a car. It is
embarrassing.
Dad: What do you want me to do?
Son: I need a car. I don't want to feel odd.
Dad: Do you have a particular car in mind?
Son: Yes dad (smiling)
Dad: How much?
Son: $1600
Dad: I will give you the money on one condition.
Son: What is the condition?
Dad: You will not use the money to buy a car but invest it. If you
make enough profit from the investment, you can go ahead and buy
the car.
Son. Deal.
Then, the father gave him a cheque of $300. The son cashed the
cheque and invested him in obedience to the verbal agreement that he
had with his father.
Some months later, the father asked the son how he was faring. The
son responded that his business was improving. The father left him.
After some months again, the father asked him about his business
again and the son told him that he is making a lot of profit from the
business.
When it was exactly a year after he gave him the money, the father
asked him to show him how far the business has gone. The son
readily agreed and the following discussion took place.

Dad: From this I can see that you have made a lot of money.
Son: Yes dad/
Dad: Do you still remember our agreement?
Son: Yes
Dad: What is it:
Son: We agreed that I should invest the money and buy the car from
the profit.
Dad: Why have you not bought the car?
Son: I don't need the car again. I want to invest more.
Dad:Good. You have learnt the lessons that I wanted to teach you.
You didn't really need the car, you just wanted to feel among. That
would have placed extra financial obligations on you. It wasn't an
asset then but a liability. Two, it is very important for you to invest in
your future before living like a king.
Son: Thanks dad
Then the father gave him the keys of the latest model of that car.

*Morals:*
1. Always invest first before you start living the way you want.
2. What you see as a need now may become a want if you can take a
little time to get over your feelings.
3. Try to be able to distinguish between an asset and a liability so that
what you see as an asset today will not become a liability to you
tomorrow.

The difference between the rich and the poor is that the rich look for assets while the poor look for liabilities..... .

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode points out that the forthcoming election won't stop the works in Lagos

At the opening session of a 3-Day retreat for Executive Council members and Body of Permanent Secretaries with the theme – Effective Strategic Planning for an Emerging Smart City, at the Jubilee Chalet, Epe, on Thursday, January 25, 2018, the Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode answered questions from journalists telling them that the incoming election would not stop the works going on in Lagos State.

He said rather than allow campaign activities to relegate governance, the State Government would stay focused on plans and programmes for the people and ensure that steady progress was achieved.

According to him,

“Clearly, we have recorded some modest successes and consolidated on the status of our State as one of the foremost commercial and social hubs in sub Saharan Africa.

We are gradually changing the face of Lagos through our aggressive infrastructural development, urban regeneration and sectoral reforms.

All the development indices, both local and international, reflect the fact that we are making steady progress with very bright outlook for the foreseeable future.

This progress is not the result of only one person’s efforts. It was not achieved by only Akinwunmi Ambode. It was achieved by all of us in this room with the cooperation of many others outside. And for this, I commend each and every one of you for your diligence and contribution to the progress made thus far."

“However, there is still a lot more to be done. I hear people saying that this is an election year and that governance will slow down but let me assure you that in this State, we will stay focused on our plans and programmes and ensure steady progress is achieved,”

He further pointed to the fact that the theme of the retreat – “Effective Strategic Planning For An Emerging Smart City,” was carefully selected,
The Governor then charged participants to start thinking of the next level even as his administration was making efforts to complete all on-going projects, just as he said that the retreat was designed to take stock of past achievements and brainstorm on the challenges ahead.

He pointed out that Lagos was achieving a lot, but that the challenge on effectively and strategically planning to actualize the vision considering the peculiar challenges of the State, adding that to plan effectively and strategically required thinking not just outside the box but globally and acting it locally.

The Governor therefore enjoined participants to look beyond the borders of the State for ideas and consider all local situation and as well do things differently and ready to be called names and to encounter resistance, saying they must however remain steadfast and let posterity judge their actions and intentions, adding that someday, the resistance would become support and endorsement.

“We are all well-aware that the last Two and a Half years have been borne with a lot of sectoral reforms and majorly successful. However, reforms are not static and they require continuous review as the society we live in is also not static. Some of our reforms remain challenging because of institutional difficulties and corruption. We presently experience this in some of our on-going reforms.

The Governor ended his statement by saying, “My message remains the same. Our conviction is resolute. We are totally for inclusive governance. This is a people-government and what would be of benefit to the majority of the citizenry should be our primary goal. Building effective and efficient institutions should be our goal henceforth. The institutional framework that will drive a successful MDA is what should be of concern to all of us. Institutions that are enduring should outlive me or anyone of us, likewise our reforms in the various sectors,”

EFCC detains Babachir Lawal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, for alleged fraud to the tune of N223m, The PUNCH can confirm.

It was learnt that Lawal arrived at the Abuja office of the EFCC around 11am on Wednesday after being invited,  he was questioned for about 8 hours after which he was detained.

There has been an outburst by Nigerians over the nepotism and one sided fight against corruption by the Buhari led administration.

The Lawal’s detention came in less than three months after he was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari for financial impropriety and less than 24 hours after former President Olusegun Obasanjo described the anti-corruption war as one-sided.

Nepotism; the order of the day in President Buhari's administration.

Nepotism is a deadly virus that once it eats into any system it Won't Leave till the system is in jeopardy.

It was for the fact that nepotism is the greatest form of corruption that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) went to elaborate ends to forbid it in the distribution of our public offices and goodies. Section 14(3) says it all: “The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria, and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic groups or other sectional groups in that Government or any of its agencies.

But our President Muhammad Buhari has defied this and violated the constitution. Upon assumption to power, he met a group of Northerners and made certain statements excerpt of which is "I charge you to join me as we build a new northern Nigeria in a generation … the best investment we can make in the north is not finding oil in the Chad Basin … we will start with one local government in each state until we get to every school in all of northern Nigeria … To achieve this, I have secured a northern rehabilitation fund … to rebuild the north after the devastation of Boko Haram insurgency … Join me my brothers and sisters and let us finish the work our forefather, Ahmadu Bello, started,” he exhorted his audience.

It is quite appalling to think that Buhari didn’t seek the presidency for 12 years to rebuild Nigeria. As Professor Ben Nwabueze observed recently, this speech “portrays the picture of someone driven by something more than the ordinary ambition to become President of Nigeria.

“Buhari was driven by a passion, the passion of religious fanaticism or a religious zealot, to become president of Nigeria in order to carry on and finish the work started by his forebear, Sir Ahmadu Bello, including the Sardauna’s fond idea to extend the rule of the Moslem north throughout the country by means of a jihad.”

More than two weeks after the fatal attacks by a group already labelled by the Global Terrorism Index in 2015 as the fourth deadliest known terrorist group in the world – only Boko Haram, ISIS and Al-Shabab terror groups were deemed deadlier – Buhari, the same president whose regime declared the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), a self-determination group, a terror organisation could not muster the will to declare murderous herdsmen same.

Chief Obasanjo said two days ago  as the criticism against President Buhari increases, that although he supported the election that brought Buhari to power,  that Buhari has failed and should “dismount from the horse”.

Chief Obasanjo acknowledged his complicity in making a man who “is weak in the knowledge and understanding of the economy.” He thought that Buhari could make “use of good Nigerians in that area.”

Obasanjo insisted that Buhari’s “experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country.”

“The lice of poor performance in government – poverty, insecurity, poor economic management, nepotism, gross dereliction of duty, condonation of misdeed – if not outright encouragement of it, lack of progress and hope for the future, lack of national cohesion and poor management of internal political dynamics and widening inequality – are very much with us today,” Obasanjo said in a 13-page statement titled ‘The Way Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement’.

“With such lice of general and specific poor performance and crying poverty with us, our fingers will not be dry of ‘blood’,” he added.

Obasanjo said Buhari, apart from being bereft of the necessary ideas that could move the country out its current doldrums, has been unduly “nepotic” in his appointments.

“But there are three other areas where President Buhari has come out more glaringly than most of us thought we knew about him,” continued Obasanjo. “One is nepotic deployment bordering on clannishness and inability to bring discipline to bear on errant members of his nepotic court. This has grave consequences on performance of his government to the detriment of the nation.

“It would appear that national interest was being sacrificed on the altar of nepotic interest. What does one make of a case like that of (Abdulrasheed) Maina: collusion, condonation, ineptitude, incompetence, dereliction of responsibility or kinship and friendship on the part of those who should have taken visible and deterrent disciplinary action? How many similar cases are buried, ignored or covered up, and not yet in the glare of the media and the public?

“The second is his poor understanding of the dynamics of internal politics. This has led to, wittingly or unwittingly, making the nation more divided, and inequality has widened and become more pronounced. It also has effect on general national security.

“The third is passing the buck. For instance, blaming the governor of the Central Bank for devaluation of the naira by 70% or so and blaming past governments for it, is to say the least, not accepting one’s own responsibility. Let nobody deceive us; economy feeds on politics and because our politics is depressing, our economy is even more depressing today. If things were good, President Buhari would not need to come in. He was voted to fix things that were bad and not engage in the blame game.”

Buhari's reaction to the Fulani Herdsmen killings

The invasion of Fulani Herdsmen to different states and the killing of Farmers has taking a new dimension recently and despite this,  the Federal Government has not dimmed it fit to address the nation or visit the affected States.

In Benue State, over 74 people were gruesomely murdered between 31st December 2017 and 17th January 2018 yet the Federal Government has remained silent about it.

Governors from other States and Individuals have on different counts commiserated with the Governor and the people of Benue over the gruesome murder of over 73 persons by herdsmen.

Although he made a release by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu,  he hasn't come out to face Nigerians or to show sympathy.

Also, in another meeting with Benue stakeholders  he was quoted to having said;

“Your Excellency, the governor, and all the leaders here, I am appealing to you to try to restrain your people. I assure you that the Police, the Department of State Service and other security agencies had been directed to ensure that all those behind the mayhem get punished.

“I ask you in the name of God to accommodate your country men. You can also be assured that I am just as worried, and concerned with the situation.’’

However, this statement doesn't even show concern for the lost lives, it further goes to show that the President has not stayed true to his word that 'he belonged to everybody and nobody' he has shown that he is being impartial and in support of the attacks by the Fulani herdsmen.

senator Bruce queried Buhari’s statement, describing restraint from herdsmen by Nigerians as suicidal.

He tweeted “I honestly dont understand how we can ask those being slaughtered to show ‘restraint’.
