Sam Smith need help with his vocal cord.

Sam Smith the winner of 4 Grammy Awards last year has told his fans that he needs help with his vocal cord.

The 22-year-old British singer was forced to call off a number of shows after doctors discovered bleeding in his throat.

He has flown to the US to see a specialist surgeon - and said he was "really nervous" about next week's op.

Smith said he was "gutted" to be missing the shows, but doctors told him he would be performing again in six to eight weeks.

He posted:

In a separate post on Instagram, 

he said: "Bad news. I have my operation booked for next week, so getting really nervous.

"But by doing this in 8 weeks' time I'm gonna be able to sing like never before so it's worth it. I am so sorry to all. Dreading the next month thou, I can't speak for three weeks after the op."
